Healthy snacks brochure translated for Taranaki audience

A popular health pamphlet outlining the sugar content of snacks has been translated into te reo for a Taranaki audience.

The Taranaki District Health Board says as part of its aim to increase te reo resources, it has been working with New Plymouth kura kaupapa Maori, Te Pi'ipi'inga Kakano Mai i Rangiatea and local Maori language trust, Te Reo O Taranaki.

Those groups have helped translate the pamphlet into the Taranaki dialect.

It contains information comparing the fat and sugar contents of food such as potato chips to healthier food, including sandwiches and yoghurt.

The Taranaki Public Health Unit says it's excited to be able to offer the Maori version, as 18,000 copies of the English version have been snapped up since it was put out more than a decade ago.
