Word on Maori land laws in early new year

A panel that has reviewed Maori land laws will deliver its recommendations to Cabinet early next year.

The Government appointed the independent team in May last year, to get feedback for the Te Ture Whenua Maori Act, which has been in place for 20 years.

There are 1.4 million hectares, or 27,000 blocks of Maori-owned land, but 80% of it is underperforming or not being used at all.
