Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples has announced dates to talk to the public about a new proposed Maori Language Strategy.

Seven consultation hui will be held nationwide, starting in Porirua, north of Wellington, on 10 February at Te Wananga o Aotearoa.

Dr Sharples says the hui are an opportunity for people to put forward their views about Te Reo.

The draft strategy focusses on supporting language learning in homes and outlines new governance arrangements for Maori language organisations such as the Maori Language Commission and Te Mangai Paaho.

Other consultation hui will be held in centres including Rotorua, Gisborne, Christchurch and Kaikohe. The last hui is expected to be held on 21 February in Auckland.
