Regional kapa haka to go on TV and online

Six regional kapa haka competitions will be hitting the small screen.

A ground-breaking agreement has been reached between Maori Television, regional Kapa Haka trusts, and Te Matatini Society.

It means regional competitions held in Tai Tokerau, Tamaki Makaurau, Tainui (Waikato), Mataatua (Bay of Plenty) and Tai Rawhiti will be broadcast on television as well as online.

Te Matatini chairperson Selwyn Parata says the agreement signals a new era for regional kapa haka competitions and reflects the positive direction taken by Te Matatini in promoting Maori performing arts.

He says kapa haka will now become more accessible to a greater number of people.
