A Ngapuhi lawyer says the process of electing people to the iwi's new mandated authority has been too fast for many to fully grasp it.
Nominations closed last Friday for 15 hapu representatives on Tuhoronuku, the board that will direct negotiations with the crown over the tribe's Treaty settlement.
But Moana Tuwhare, who represents a number of hapu, says the mandate process is complex, and people have had little time to get their heads around the options.
She says the election of hapu reps on Tuhoronuku is relatively simple but the rules say it takes a hui of at least 80 people, and a 75% majority, to remove one.
The mid-north lawyer has herself has been nominated as a kaikorero.
