The Green Party has again chosen Jack Tautokai McDonald to stand in the western Maori seat of Te Tai Hauauru.

The 20-year-old of Te Atiawa, Taranaki Tuturu, and Te Whakatohea descent stood for the party in the 2011 general election and came third behind the Maori and Labour party candidates.

He's been credited by his party for increasing the Green's party vote from 3.4 per cent to 10.9 per cent at the last election.

Mr McDonald says although it's an honour to have been re-selected as the Green Party candidate for Te Tai Hauauru, he says his strategy is the same as 2011 - to increase the party vote even further.

The Kapiti Coast man says by concentrating on the party vote it will elect a bigger and stronger Maori caucus for the Green Party, and the potential for a second MP for Te Tai Hauauru.

He says his place at number 19 on the party list givesTe Tai Hauauru voters the chance to elect a Green MP with their party vote.
