The Maori Party is expected to name their Tamaki Makaurau electorate candidate on Sunday.

Candidates who have thrown their names into the hat are the party's Tamaki electorate co-chair, Bronwyn Yates, Hato Petera college deputy principal Te Hira Paenga and Manurewa Marae chair Rangi McLean.

The chosen candidate will replace outgoing MP Pita Sharples who has held the seat since 2005.
