The iwi almost never made it to Wellington as there were a few minor issues it needed to sort out.

But tribe lead negotiator Daisy Noble said she felt a sense of joy knowing all the hard work to reach this point was finally paying off.

Nga Ruahinerangi people could feel proud for making it this far, she said.

Ms Noble was confident her iwi members would give the settlement the go-ahead after it made a few adjustments to the settlement.

The tribe aimed to sign off its full and final settlement on 1 August.

Te Atiawa initialled its deed on Wednesday afternoon, which included a total settlement package of $91 million.
