An agreement to stop dumping treated wastewater in a Rotorua forest is supported by a former Tuhourangi Trustee, who says it will limit pollution in the Puarenga Stream.
The Rotorua District Council and CNI Iwi Holdings, which owns part of the forest, have signed a deed to stop spraying wastewater in Whakarewarewa Forest by 2019.
And in the meantime, the groups will work together to find other ways of getting rid of waste.
Former Tuhourangi Trustee Wally Lee said it was a step forward and would benefit the Puarenga Stream at Whakarewarewa Village.
It was likely to improve the quality of the water from the natural springs because water run off from the treatment system would stop one stream of pollution in the catchment.
