Young Maori get taste of business

8:27 pm on 9 July 2014

Young Maori secondary school students, many from lower decile schools, are this week getting a real-life taste of running a business.

The 44 teenagers are taking part in a five-day workshop called Te Wero Pakihi [the business challenge] in Auckland.

The Maori Women's Development Incorporation selected graduates from it's MaiBiz course for the scholarship course.

Chief executive Teresa Tepania-Ashton said many of the students had never been to Auckland, or on a plane, and probably would not otherwise be learning business skills.
