The sculpture of Potatau Te Wherowhero was made by New Zealand-born artist Gary Schofield, now based in the United States.

Mr Schofield is keen to give the bronze to King Tuheitia. Hamilton City Council deputy mayor Gordon Chesterman said while the meeting went very well, King Tuheitia and his advisors would examine the moko and facial features before making a final decision.

Mr Chesterman said he expected to receive an answer from the King's office in a few days' time.
