Indigenous research scholarship opens

The Maori Research Centre of Excellence is calling for applicants for a scholarship to research or lecture in the United States in the area of indigenous development.

Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga and Fullbright New Zealand are offering a scholar award valued up to $37,500.

The recipient can undertake an exchange to their choice of leading American universities renowned for their indigenous study and research programmes for three to five months.

Last year's recipient, Rangi Matamua of Ngai Tuhoe, is currently researching how astronomy is embedded within indigenous people's cultural practices at the University of Minnesota.

Applications close on 1 October.
