Ngai Tahu has set aside money to help its people who are participating or involved in next year's Te Matatini cultural festival in Christchurch.

The Ngai Tahu Fund Committee has reserved three pools of funding.

One of the funds allows individual whanau to apply for up to $5000, while the medium and large amounts of putea are reserved for groups.

Groups can apply for up to $30,000 or the bigger fund, which is more than $30,000 and set aside for big projects or events being organised by roopu.

A Ngai Tahu spokesperson said the putea was available for registered iwi descendents, involved or supporting the national cultural event.

He said they could be volunteering their services at the national event or setting up workshops such as weaving at Te Matatini.
