Mana launches housing policy

6:05 am on 16 September 2014

The Mana Party has launched its housing policy to help low income individuals and families to get off the street, to save for their first home, and improve the state of rural housing.

The party has several priorities. It wants the Government to ensure that every person and whanau is housed in secure, safe and affordable accommodation.

The policy also indicates that there should be a stop to the sale of state homes and the eviction of tenants.

Instead, it says 10,000 new state homes a year for rent or a rent to own agreement be made available until the current crisis in rental availability is addressed.

Mana also wants regulations for rural homes to allow whanau to bring their houses up to decent health and safety standards.
