Auckland Council asks iwi for input

Auckland's Mayor Len Brown says the council has asked iwi around the region to provide a list of what is critical to sustain the survival of their marae.

The council's long-term plan, or 10 year budget, is currently out for public consultation over the next seven weeks and will be finalised in June.

Len Brown said the council had put what he thought was a reasonable amount of commitment to Maori projects, such as upgrading marae, as part of the plan.

He said it had asked iwi to tell it what improvements were needed for marae infrastructure, whether that be wastewater or roading connections.
