Resources promoting Māori language week free

7:55 pm on 4 July 2011

The Māori Language Commission is charging nothing for language resources promoting Māori language week.

The campaign, Manaakitanga or Hospitality, began on Monday and ends on Sunday.

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori says it has removed the prices to test demand for items such as posters, phrase booklets, stickers, wristbands and T-shirts.

Te Taura chief executive Glenis Philip-Barbara says so far, its experiment has proved successful.

She says it waived the fees on 20 June and within the first three days the commission almost ran out of stock.

Ms Philip-Barbara says at a later time it will evaluate the findings of its experiment and decide whether in future it should drop the costs.
