Māori Party members to discuss potential deal with Mana

7:43 pm on 8 July 2011

The Māori Party says it will consider a potential deal with Hone Harawira's Mana Party at its executive council meeting at the weekend.

Representatives from the parties met on Thursday night.

Māori Party president Pem Bird says a meeting with Mana emissary Willie Jackson has clarified what the party is offering.

Mr Bird says Mr Jackson was candid and honest, and relayed Mana's view of its relationship with the Maori Party, including thoughts on who might stand in which electorates ahead of the election on 26 November.

Mr Bird says the Maori Party council will look at those suggestions on Sunday, but it is going to take a week or two of discussion to arrive at any agreement.
