Whānau Ora forging new links between iwi

6:03 am on 11 July 2011

A Whangārei community worker says the Whānau Ora system is forging new links between iwi around the country.

Martin Kaipō from the Ōtangarei Trust says Christchurch Māori quake victims who fled the city to stay with whānau in the north are now starting to head back.

He says Whānau Ora has connected the various support agencies that can help them adjust.

Mr Kaipō says Whānau Ora workers in the north are now talking to their counterparts in the south and making transitions easier for those heading home.

He says the new system has effectively created a new and very valuable Māori network in Aotearoa.
