The Auckland hapu, Ngati Whatua o Kaipara, says it's looking for someone with 'pizazz' to become its first chief executive, after the sub-tribe settled its Treaty claims.

The tumuaki (chief executive) will run Nga Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Development Trust - which will manage the assets returned to the hapu by the Crown - including a forest, schools and a housing block.

Acting CEO Margaret Kawharu says the right person can be can be Maori or Pakeha.

She says, ideally, the successful candidate will be the best of all worlds and have good financial management, be commercially savvy, and have an understanding of a Maori organisation.
