Yellow Flicker Beat

Lorde has shared a new song, ‘Yellow Flicker Beat”, the lead single from her The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack.

“it’s my first offering from what i hope will be a soundtrack you love. it’s my attempt at getting inside her head, katniss’. i hope you like it,” the musician writes on Tumblr.

“We are almost at the end, the point where this soundtrack gets taken away from me and becomes something real,” she says. “I’m reminded of this day last year, when Pure Heroine came out in this country. The feeling of something very solitary that I had worked on spinning around and around further away from me, becoming someone else’s, everyone’s.”

Calling the song a “dark jam”, Rolling Stone says it fits comfortably within the 17-year-old's sonic wheelhouse. “Lorde's brooding croon stretched out over minimal synths and rattling drums. ‘I’m a princess cut from marble / smoother than a storm,’ she sings, in what sounds like a reference to Hunger Games protagonist Katniss Everdeen. ‘And the scars that mark my body / they’re silver and gold’.”

Last year, Lorde recorded an cover of Tears for Fears' ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ for the soundtrack to Catching Fire, the second film in the Hunger Games franchise.
