Kick Out The Jams: NOW!

10:24 am on 8 January 2016

Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we head out to New Year's festival NOW!

This season’s summer music festival lineup has been blighted by the collapse of a few major events including Echo Festival, Westfest and Soulfest. Meanwhile New Zealand’s biggest New Year’s Eve event, Rhythm and Vines, continues to party on, albeit under closer scrutiny. Last years campground “riot” highlighted some of the pitfalls that come with staging bigger scale events.

On the other side of the festival bill there has been a resurgence in smaller, anti-corporate, collectively run, non-profit, do-it-together events (like Chronophonium) taking place "off the grid". This New Year’s Eve we checked out one such festival, NOW!,  where around 160 people gathered on the remote south Wairarapa coast to party on in blissful isolation.
