DIY Touring The World: China

11:02 am on 10 May 2016

What is touring really like for a band nobody’s heard of?

In this six-part series music impresario Ian Jorgensen details his experiences of the musical underground around the world, speaking with musicians, promoters and venue operators in China, America, Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Part one explores China, the behemoth on our front doorstep. It hasn’t always been on the radar for touring bands, but many are starting to see it as an affordable and exciting alternative to predictable destinations like the UK and US. Here Jorgensen finds a nascent music scene - one growing rapidly, in tandem with the Chinese economy.
