Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Friday
A broad, complex, low pressure system, with embedded fronts, is spreading over Aotearoa New Zealand from the Tasman Sea today through to Friday.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
All of the North Island, except Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Periods of rain, sometimes heavy with hail and possible thunderstorms, easing to a few showers tonight. Showers becoming more frequent later tomorrow morning, some heavy with hail and possible thunderstorms.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay
Scattered rain developing this afternoon, clearing overnight tonight. Cloudy periods tomorrow, a few showers in the afternoon and evening, possibly heavy with hail.
Marlborough, Nelson and Buller
Today, periods of rain, sometimes heavy and possible thunderstorms. Showers tomorrow, some heavy with hail and possible thunderstorms.
Westland and Fiordland
Showers, some heavy in Westland, with possible thunderstorms north of Abut Head today.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland
Scattered rain, clearing Southland and Otago this afternoon and Canterbury this evening. Isolated showers tomorrow, more widespread about coastal Southland and Stewart Island.
Occasional showers, clearing this afternoon. Rain developing overnight tonight, easing to a few showers tomorrow afternoon.
And the outlook for the following three days...
North Island, Showers in the north and west, frequent north of Whanganui towards evening. Fine in the east, with just a few spots of rain. South Island, Showers in the west and south, clearing in the west in the evening. Mainly fine with a chance of shower elsewhere.
North Island, Morning rain in the west and north, possibly heavy about the ranges, then showers. Scattered rain in the east. South Island, Occasional showers for most, but mainly fine with morning forsts in the west and Central Otago.
North Island, Showers for most, easing later. South Island, Showers in the south with snow possible to 500 metres in the morning. Mainly fine elsewhere, with morning frosts, and isolated morning showers in the east.
And at the Chathams
Occasional showers on Wednesday. Rain on Thursday and Friday. Strong northeasterly developing on Thursday, turning strong northwest early Friday and strong southwest late Friday.
