Australian aid worker injured in suicide bombing

9:33 pm on 28 March 2012

An Australian aid worker has been flown to Germany, where he is in a serious but stable condition, after being injured in a suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan.

The attack killed three NATO soldiers earlier this week.

The Taliban says it was in retaliation for the killing of 17 civilians by an American soldier two weeks ago.

The AusAid employee, David Savage, was returning from a community meeting in the Chora Valley, north of Tarin Kowt.

Mr Savage was under the protection of the International Security Assistance Force at the time of the attack.

The Australian Defence Minister Stephen Smith says security arrangements for Australian aid workers in Afghanistan will be automatically reviewed.
