Police in California say the man accused of killing seven people at an Oakland university is an expelled student who was seeking revenge for being teased and disrespected.

One Goh, 43, has told them he was originally targeting one particular administrator at Oikos University.

Oakland police chief Howard Jordan says that when he found the administrator was not there, he went through the building shooting students on Monday.

The former student later surrendered at a supermarket in Alameda city.

Mr Jordan says six of those killed were women. Their ages ranged from 21 - 40. They came from Korea, Nigeria, Nepal and the Philippines.

Three wounded people have now been released from hospital.
