UK airports face Easter gridlock

7:03 am on 5 April 2012

Airline passengers arriving in Britain over Easter could face security queues, due to a shortage of personnel to carry out passport checks.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper said 11 airlines including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have warned that the UK Border Agency does not have the resources to check the passports of all arrivals.

A memo from Virgin Atlantic published by the paper said airlines could be forced to keep passengers aboard the aircraft if there is no space in the immigration hall for any more arrivals.

Easter weekend is one of the busiest travel periods of the year in Britain.
