Porsche 911 designer dies

The designer of the Porsche 911 sports car, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, has died in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Known as F A Porsche, he was 76.

In 1963, he dreamed up the sleek lines and alluring curves of the 911 which is now in its seventh generation.

He was the grandson of the company's founder.

He also created the Formula One racecar 804 as well as the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS.

In the 1970s, he branched out into Porsche merchandise including lines of wristwatches and sunglasses.

He began at the company in 1958 and was the honorary chairman of the company's supervisory board.
