An Australian man protesting elitism has been arrested for disrupting the 158th Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race by swimming into the path of rowers on London's River Thames.
The historic rowing race was brought to a standstill at the halfway point of the 6.8km course.
There was a 31 minute delay before it could be restarted.
British authorities arrested Australian expatriate Trenton Oldfield, 35, who claimed responsibility for the stunt on a blog entitled "Elitism Leads To Tyranny".
Oldfield narrowly avoided being hit by oars when he swam into the path of the boats.
He is facing public order charges.
The race was won by Cambridge.
