Taliban now has mobile radio stations

7:58 am on 6 May 2012

The Taliban has a new propaganda weapon in Afghanistan - two mobile radio stations on the backs of trucks and donkeys.

One of the stations, The Voice of Sharia FM, is on air three times a day from a remote and valley in the eastern province of Kunar on the border with Pakistan.

The BBC reports it broadcasts chants, interviews with Taliban leaders and their speeches and warnings against working with US forces.

The BBC reports a lot of people in the district of Sarkano listen to the station.

Intelligence officials say the broadcasts cannot be jammed because they lack the equipment.
