The main Syrian opposition group has criticised the decision by the United Nations to suspend its observer mission in the country.
The Syrian National Council repeated its call for the UN Security Council to move quickly to put the special envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan under Chapter Seven which means that a ceasefire could be enforced, the BBC reports.
On Saturday, the UN announced it was suspending its observer missions although the 300 UN monitors will remain in the country for the time being.
It says the decision was taken because of attacks and threats directed at the monitors.
Meanwhile, Syrian activists report that at least 11 people were killed and dozens wounded on Sunday in intensified Syrian army shelling on opposition districts of the central city of Homs.
