Keneally leaving politics

12:42 pm on 23 June 2012

Former New South Wales premier Kristina Keneally is quitting politics.

After nine years in the state parliament, she is to become the chief executive of Basketball Australia.

The ABC reports she will leave parliament on Friday next week and a by-election will be held to replace her in the seat of Heffron, in east Sydney.

Ms Keneally led Labor to its worst defeat at the state election in March last year, reducing the party to just 20 seats in the Lower House.
