Fatal flooding in Afghanistan

9:56 am on 24 June 2012

Flash floods have killed more than 30 people in northern Afghanistan. Dozens more people are missing.

Water swept through villages and engulfed houses in central Ghor province, after days of torrential rain.

In the north east, rain and hail triggered floods destroying at least 100 homes.

Afghanistan is experiencing its harshest winter in 15 years with unusally heavy snowfalls.

The melting snow could cause further flash flooding in spring.
