Syria says its border forces have confronted terrorists who had infiltrated from Turkey and killed several of them.
state news agency SANA said the incident occurred near a Syrian border post in the province of Latakia. The two countries share a 600km border.
No further details were given.
More than 30,000 refugees have crossed the border into Turkey from Syria since an uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.
