Election in Iceland

9:02 pm on 30 June 2012

The people of Iceland are voting for a new president, with the incumbent Olafur Grimsson seeking a record fifth term in office.

Mr Grimsson won popularity for twice refusing to use taxpayers' money to bail out overseas investors when Icebank collapsed in 2008.

He faces a strong challenge from a television journalist Thora Arnosdottir.
