Police in France are investigating how recordings of conversations with a killer came to be broadcast on French television.

Mohamed Merah killed seven people in Toulouse in several incidents in March, before he was shot dead by police during a siege which lasted 23 hours.

The dialogue was played on Sunday by the TF1 channel which is refusing to say who provided it.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls condemned the broadcast of the negotiations, saying it showed a

lack of respect to relatives of the dead.

Merah went on a rampage, from 11 - 19 March. He made a video recording of his killings, using a camera strapped to his chest.

The dead included three Jewish children murdered at a school.
