Mubarak to be moved back to prison

6:32 am on 17 July 2012

The public prosecutor in Egypt has ordered the return to prison of former president Hosni Mubarak saying his health has improved.

The deposed dictator was moved from prison to a hospital last month after a deterioration in his health.

He was said at the time to have had a series of strokes and to be on a life support machine. Reports that he was "clinically dead" were later denied.

Prosecutor Abdel Maguid Mahmoud has now issued an order to transfer Mr Mubarak from the Maadi Armed Forces Hospital to Tora prison hospital.

Mr Mubarak, 84, was sentenced in June to life in prison for his role in the deaths of protesters.

It was not immediately known when he would be transferred to prison.
