Temple funerals held

12:47 pm on 11 August 2012

Funerals were held on Friday for six people killed in a shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, USA.

A US Army veteran opened fire as worshippers prepared for a service last Sunday.

Three others who were critically wounded, are still in hospital.

Flowers were laid around the open caskets of the five men and one woman and a large video screen displayed their pictures, as well as those of the wounded.

The BBC reports the service included hymns and prayers sung in Punjabi.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper reports 3000 people attended the service. Among them were US Attorney General Eric Holder and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.

The gunman, Wade Michael Page, 40, was shot and killed during the attack.

A bullet hole in a doorway leading to the main prayer hall has been left intact as a memorial.
