Food poisoning in Japan

8:35 am on 20 August 2012

Seven people in northern Japan have died after eating pickles contaminated with E.coli, a bacterial infection.

It's the deadliest outbreak of mass food poisoning in 10 years. Past cases have generally involved meat or seafood.

Six were elderly women who ate the pickles at nursing homes.

More than 100 others became ill after eating the same lightly pickled Chinese cabbage produced by a company in the city of Sapporo.
