Two people were killed and at least eight were wounded in a shooting on a busy street outside the Empire State Building in New York City.
New York police said the gunman was one of the dead.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly identified him as Jeffrey Johnson of Manhattan, 53, who had worked at Hazan Imports across the street from the skyscraper. He had been fired about a year ago.
The other man was a former co-worker three times, who was shot three times.
The incident occurred soon after 9am on Friday. The area was packed with commuters and tourists.
Commissioner Kelly said that a construction worker followed the gunman, and alerted two police officers outside the Empire State Building. There was a confrontation and the officers shot the attacker dead.
The wounded had minor injuries and all are expected to survive.
