Rafah border crossing open again

6:52 am on 26 August 2012

Egypt has reopened the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, which has been closed since 16 Egyptian soldiers were killed there on 5 August.

After the attack, Egypt closed the crossing and moved to seal smuggling tunnels, suspected to have been used by the attackers who were later killed at an Israeli border crossing.

The Rafah crossing is normally used by some 800 people per day.
