A commander in the Haqqani network in Pakistan is reported to have been killed by a United States drone.

Badruddin Haqqani died last Tuesday in North Waziristan. The group was started by his father.

Analyst Ahmed Rashid said Badruddin was also one of the group's main financiers.

''He would travel on a Pakistani passport to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states to raise donations from sympathisers and supporters in the Arab world, and he was very well known in jihadist circles, including Al Qaeda," he said.

He was also responsible for training camps.

North Waziristan is a haven for the Taliban and al-Qaeda.
