Author Bryce Courtney reveals terminal cancer

One of Australia's most popular and commercially successful authors, Bryce Courtenay, has revealed that he may have only months to live.

The South African-born author and former advertising executive shot to prominence with his first book in the late 1980s with his book The Power of One.

Courtenay, 79, was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year, the ABC reports. On Friday night he told the Australian television he did not have long to live

The author studied journalism in London and worked in advertising until he became a writer at the age of 55.

Courtenay has published 19 works of fiction resulting in 20 million book sales since The Power Of One was published in 1989.

He was made a member of the order of Australia in 1995.
