The European Union has ordered Google to change the way it gathers personal information in order to protect the privacy of its users.

In March, Google brought in a policy allowing it to pool all the information gathered about people by its individual services like YouTube, Gmail, social network Google+ and smartphone system Android.

The investigation was lead by French data agency CNIL, which has threatened legal action if Google fails to make changes
