The oldest known survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp has died.

Antoni Dobrowolski, 108, died in Debno, in north-west Poland.

He was sent to Auschwitz in 1942 for giving secret lessons to Polish children during Germany's occupation of Poland.

The ABC reports he was later transferred to Gross Rosen and Sachsenhausen, both in Germany.

Mr Dobrowolski survived until the latter camp was liberated by Soviet and Polish forces in 1945.

In a video made when he was 103, he said Auschwitz was worse than Dante's hell.
