Security guards in Finland stopped a man with a knife who apparently tried to attack the prime minister.
They reportedly prevented him from reaching Jyrki Katainen as he campaigned in Turku before an election next Sunday.
Mr Katainen, 41, was not hurt and later resumed greeting voters.
A newspaper photographer who saw the episode, said the man fell to his knees with a knife in front of the prime minister, but did not attack him.
The STT news agency STT reported he was taken into police custody.
