Two asylum seeker boats intercepted

Two asylum seeker boats carrying 117 people have been intercepted by Australian Customs off the coast of Ashmore Islands, south of East Timor.

HMAS Bathurst intercepted a boat carrying 81 people east of the islands on Tuesday night.

Another boat, carrying 36 people, was found by ACV Ashmore Guardian west of Ashmore Islands on Wednesday morning.

AAP reports the passengers will be taken to Christmas Island for security, health and identity checks.
