More flood protection work in UK

The British government is to allocate a further £120 million in funding for flood defences.

Ministers estimate that the money will improve flood protection for up to 60,000 homes between next year and 2015.

The BBC reports the government said the money was in addition to £2 billion being spent on flooding and coastal erosion up to 2015.

However, Labour says the government is still spending less on flood defences next year than in 2008.
