Poker machine spending is down $A62 million in the state of Victoria, Australia, after a ban on ATMs in gaming venues.

The ABC reports the ban was introduced in July by the state government to fight problem gambling.

Gaming Minister Michael O'Brien said new figures show the move has already seen a drop of 6.7% in the amount of money being spent on pokies.

"We're really pleased by the fact that, initially at least, the first four months indicate that gamblers are taking this reform to heart," he said.
