Tourist resorts without power

9:16 am on 7 December 2012

Thousands of visitors are trying to leave the Thai tourist islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan after three days without power due to a broken undersea cable.

The cable ruptured on Tuesday, leaving the busy tourist islands without electricity just ahead of the high season which begins in mid-December.

Many resorts have generators, but shortages of fuel are now reported and the broken high voltage cable to the mainland is still not fixed.
