Giant Christmas tree near Korean border

The South Korean government has allowed church groups to set up a giant steel structure with thousands of Christmas lights near the border with North Korea.

In the past, the government in Pyongyang has condemned such actions as propaganda warfare and threatened retaliation.

Last year, the South Korean government told Christians not to light the giant tree to avoid tensions after the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
